Simultaneous Conversion of Polarization and Frequency via Time‐Division‐Multiplexing Metasurfaces

چکیده
Metasurfaces are artificially engineered two-dimensional materials composed of sub-wavelength meta-atoms, which have shown unprecedented capabilities in manipulating the amplitude, phase, frequency, and polarization states electromagnetic waves. Specifically, control can be attained via suitable anisotropic, linear, time-invariant designs, while frequency conversion is realized nonlinear or time-varying platforms. Simultaneous manipulations would considerable practical interest many application scenarios, but remain unattainable with current approaches. Here, a time-division-multiplexing metasurface proposed to realize simultaneous frequency. The platform relies on time-modulated switches and, by varying duty cycle time delays channels, arbitrarily rotate at central operation, synthesize various selected harmonic frequencies. Theoretical predictions validated measurements prototype operating microwave frequencies, providing first experimental evidence conversions metasurfaces. outcomes open new pathway waves metasurfaces, may for broad variety applications scenarios ranging from imaging quantum optics.

Thin anisotropic metasurfaces for simultaneous light focusing and polarization manipulation
The possibility of integration of two important categories of optical components, i.e., circular polarizer and lens, into a thin plasmonic metasurface is examined, for the realistic case when metal losses cannot be neglected, for example when operating in the visible spectrum, or at infrared when non-noble metals are used. We introduce a metasurface made of nanoantennas that offer enough degree...

We demonstrate that polarization conversion in coupled dimer antennas, used in phase discontinuity metasurfaces, can be tuned by careful design. By controlling the gap width, a strong variation of the coupling strength and polarization conversion is found between capacitively and conductively coupled antennas. A theoretical two-oscillator model is proposed, which shows a universal scaling of th...

متن کاملPolarization conversion in plasmonic nanoantennas for metasurfaces using structural asymmetry and mode hybridization
Polarization control using single plasmonic nanoantennas is of interest for subwavelength optical components in nano-optical circuits and metasurfaces. Here, we investigate the role of two mechanisms for polarization conversion by plasmonic antennas: Structural asymmetry and plasmon hybridization through strong coupling. As a model system we investigate L-shaped antennas consisting of two ortho...
متن کاملOptical metasurfaces for polarization-controlled beam shaping.
We have developed multifunctional optical beam shapers based on plasmonic metasurfaces. The metasurfaces are composed of subwavelength-spaced polarization- and wavelength-selective optical nanoantennas that allow encoding several beam shapers on a single element. We demonstrate numerically and experimentally beam shapers that can be used to switch between arbitrary beam shapes. We specifically ...
